Our mission is to provide a supportive, confidential setting for students to address problems affecting their academic, social, employment, or personal goals. UMF has four licensed counselors, Sarah Carnahan, Gavin Pickering, Melissa Meyer, and Katie Fournier. Issues commonly addressed in individual counseling sessions include: concerns about relationships, happiness, life decisions, motivation, personal growth, adjustment to college life, self-esteem, academic challenges, time management, study skills, anxiety, depression, loss, eating disorders, alcohol/drug misuse, sexuality, trauma/abuse, identity and lifestyle choices.
Location and Hours
Individual counseling services are available at the CSD, Franklin Academic Success Center, 252 Main Street, Farmington (second floor). The CSD is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
How to Make an Appointment, the Counseling Fee
Call 207-778-7034 or stop by the CSD during open hours to schedule an appointment. All students with billable insurance can have up to three visits per semester without a co-pay charge. After three visits, you will be charged the co-pay amount associated with your insurance plan. Students with insurance that we cannot bill or who fail to present a health insurance card will be charged $20 for every visit. Students who have not met their annual insurance deductible or if your insurance company denies a submitted claim, will be charged $20 for the office visit. Students never have to pay up-front for services; they may have any charges added to their student account.
The content of discussions in counseling appointments is confidential. The exception to this rule is when students are at risk to themselves or others.
