The Greenwood Dining Room, Farmington’s newly opened restaurant located at 168 Front Street, has officially opened its doors to the public. For those who are familiar with the Stone Hearth Café, which opened last April, the new Greenwood Dining Room is located in the same building. The new dining room offers an extended menu, as well as a, “more formal sit down experience,” according to owner, John Moore.
The menu includes a selection of appetizers and a variety of entrees, centered on fresh and healthy ingredients, with a focus on organic and local ingredients. “The menu isn’t huge,” said Moore, “because we would much rather stress quality over quantity.”
The planning and building process for the restaurant took about a year and a half. “Adding the dining room was a natural progression to the café,” said Moore, “and we also thought the market was ready for another sit down restaurant.”
“The food is delicious and you definitely get what you pay for,” said Emily Thompson, University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) junior and waitress at the Greenwood Dining Room. “I wouldn’t say that a UMF student could afford the food all the time, but as a special treat I think it’s a great place to go to get high quality food at an affordable price.” The community, including UMF students and staff, seems to be enjoying the new place to dine. “Every table I’ve served so far has had nothing but good things to say about the food,” said Thompson.
UMF junior Olivia Dow, has dined at the Greenwood Dining Room, spoke very highly of the cuisine. “When I went I ate the vegetable ravioli,” said Dow, “and it was absolutely delicious. My waitress was also incredibly sweet and the service was great.”
The dining room provides patrons with a more formal atmosphere than the café, with soft music in the background and candlelight glowing from every table. “The dining room also sometimes has live music,” adds Thompson, “which makes for a great dining experience.”
The Greenwood Dining Room is open Thursdays 5p.m. to 8p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.. Walk-in customers are welcome, but reservations are recommended. For reservations, call 207-778-2397.
