UMF FRC Announces Cancellation of 2020 Summer Daze Camp    6/3/2020

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the cancellation of Summer Daze Camp for the 2020 season. While we would have loved to have been able to offer camp this summer, the University of Maine System has determined that no campus will be allowed to offer summer camps this year.

How to safely conduct a children’s summer camp in our environment has been a topic of great deliberation since the FRC closed in March. The state guidance provided in May regarding best-practices for summer camps not only set benchmarks for how to open safely, but also left us with questions about how to provide an enjoyable experience for campers and staff while meeting our safety obligations. While the decision on whether to offer camp was ultimately taken out of our hands, we support the system stance not to offer camps this summer. We realize that this may create a child-care burden for many, but we are in agreement with the system that the risks of hosting camp ultimately out-weighed the benefits.

We are saddened by our inability to offer a camp experience this year. Summer Daze Camp is more than just a service that we provide to the community. We treasure our interactions with the children who attend camp, and the bond that it fosters within the community. The games, meals, and activities we enjoy with the campers is not an experience that we give up lightly.

We’ll miss you this summer, and we hope to see you next year.

After School Program

Our After School Program introduces school-aged children to a wide variety of fun activities and games.

Our aim is to offer a structured program to ensure that children receive a diverse experience active and interactive experiences but also allow time for free choice, open swim and open gym activities. During our pool times on Mondays and Thursdays we keep the participants active and energized with pool games.

Each month an updated After School Program calendar of events keeps parents up to date on the variety of activities we offer their children. Upon registration, parents can also join a closed Facebook group to follow activities, chat with other parents and keep up on upcoming events.
