The 9-12 Maine Mathematics Coaching Pilot (9-12 MMCP) is designed to support the development of a high school mathematics coaching model to better meet the needs of 9-12 mathematics and CTE teachers.

The primary goals of this pilot are to:

  • Prepare Maine high school students to meet career and college mathematics demands;
  • Provide high school and CTE teachers with high quality mathematics professional development and resources; and
  • Increase interest, engagement, and self-efficacy in mathematics for high school students and teachers.

Pilot

The 9-12 Maine Mathematics Coaching Pilot begins in Fall 2017. The application deadline for 9-12 MMCP is June 30, 2017.

1. District Leadership is responsible for the following:

  • Contact and meet with Director of Educational Outreach, Sandra MacArthur (778-7186)
  • Identify coaching candidate to participate in the two year pilot
  • Complete, sign and return the 9-12 MMCP Assurances

2. Coaching candidate submits the 9-12 MMCP Application.  See instructions here.  Application deadline is June 30, 2017.

Fall 2017

  • 9-12 MMCP Orientation (2 days)
  • 2 in-district visits from UMF’s 9-12 MMCP Coaching Supervisor
  • Learning Lab and Dine and Discuss

Spring 2018

  • First coaching course for  9-12 MMCP Math Coaches
  • Learning Lab and Dine and Discuss
  • 2 in-district visits from UMF’s 9-12 MMCP Coaching Supervisor

Summer 2018

  • Second coaching course for  9-12 MMCP Math Coaches
  • Summer Institute (2 days)

Fall 2018

  • Learning Lab and Dine and Discuss
  • 2 in-district visits from UMF 9-12 MMCP Coaching Supervisor

Spring 2019

  • Third coaching course for  9-12 MMCP Math Coaches
  • Learning Lab and Dine and Discuss
  • 2 in-district visits from UMF’s 9-12 MMCP Coaching Supervisor

Additional in-district consultation services available for continued support by contracting with UMF.

Program Costs

District must ensure the coaching candidate, has appropriate technology, release time, resources and support.

District costs:

  • Year 1 $6,000 due before the candidate participates in the program
  • Year 2 $5,000 due before the candidate participates in the program
  • NCSM (National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics) student membership – $55 per year or NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) membership – $94 per year
  • Lodging/transportation costs
  • Mobil technology (laptop or tablet) compatible with MLTI image

Payment to UMF includes:

  • One Orientation
  • One Summer Institute
  • Nine graduate credits for each coach
  • Four Field Coaching Supervisor training visits per coaching candidate in each academic year
