Joseph P. McGinn Appointed as UMF Provost


Joseph P. McGinn, former dean of Towson University, has been appointed to serve as the University of Maine at Farmington’s new provost and vice president of academic affairs. As chief academic officer at UMF, he will provide leadership for all aspects of academic life, continue to strengthen UMF’s academic and research programs and maintain UMF’s dedication to excellence. Quoted in the Morning Sentinel, McGinn said “I am honored and excited to be a part of UMF’s tremendous legacy as the birthplace of public higher education in Maine.” Before Towson, he was director of the global honors program and professor of philosophy at Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania and assistant professor of philosophy and humanities at Penn State-Harrisburg.
