UMF awarded Mellon Foundation grant to create digital arts and humanities “Commons”

UMF recently received a $500,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to fund the creation of an innovative digital commons of arts and humanities works. According to the Morning Sentinel, the project is soliciting members of the Maine community for their suggestions on the works to be featured over the five-year project. Those interested in participating can create a simple video pitch highlighting the work of art, literature, film, music, or any creation that is meaningful at this moment in history. Eugene Tobin, a senior program officer for Higher Education and Scholarship in the Humanities at the Mellon Foundation noted the statewide digital commons could “become a national model for public liberal arts colleges…”
