The Educators for Maine Program is a state-funded scholarship/loan program for graduating high school seniors and college students who intend to become teachers in Maine. All applicants must be planning on a career in education. Applicants must be residents of Maine, be currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution, and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. An GPA of 2.5 or greater is necessary to qualify for renewal.
Students selected by this program receive up to $3000 per year up to a maximum of $12,000 for full-time undergraduate students. These loans are automatically renewable if the recipient meets certain academic performance requirements and submits their yearly renewal application on-time. Loans under the Educators for Maine Program can be forgiven for education professionals who subsequently teach in Maine. Those who, after receiving money from this program, decide not to teach, will have to pay back the money with an interest rate determined by the program originator.
