Description of the Internship:
The Maine Development Foundation (MDF) drives sustainable, long-term economic growth in Maine.  MDF stimulates new ideas, develops leaders, and provides common ground for solving problems and advancing issues.

The Maine Development Foundation’s intern program is available to post-secondary students in Maine.  This is an ongoing internship opportunity that is available during each spring, summer or fall semester.

The intern will be responsible to the president, program directors, and support staff for administrative and program support.  This position requires excellent organization, written and oral communication skills, and strong computer skills.  The position includes both substantive work on a variety of programs and general office support, offering the successful applicant the opportunity to gain experience in a dynamic office environment.

The intern and MDF will develop a work plan that meets the needs of MDF and best suits the interests and abilities of the intern.  MDF and the intern will determine a mutually agreeable schedule and will develop a structure appropriate to each intern’s circumstances, which may include the intern working off-site on MDF projects as appropriate.

Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of this internship include:

1.  Administrative duties including:

  • Maintaining program and database files
  • Creating Excel spreadsheets
  • Preparing tables, charts, and Power Point presentations
  • General office support such as answering telephone, photocopying materials, assisting with mailing, filing, etc.
  • Assisting with logistics for conferences and meetings
  • Assisting with the production of printed documents using MSWord, Excel, Publisher and/or Pagemaker
  • Assistance with maintaining and updating website and social media

2.  Program responsibilities including:

  • Project-related research
  • Report writing
  • General assistance to program staff as needed
Qualifications:
  • Excellent grammar, writing, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks
  • Knowledge of current technology, office practices, procedures and equipment
  • Ability to attend to detail and maintain accuracy while remaining flexible in a high-volume work environment
