Description of the Internship:
The Maine Meal, owned by Chef Mark LaCasse and his wife, Kelly LaCasse, is a licensed processing plant that creates gourmet frozen cuisine from high quality local ingredients.  This one-of-a-kind business, which is only 3 years old, is in a position to expand in several different directions.

The Maine Meal is seeking a student intern who can help our company increase our online presence and increase engagement with customers through social media.  The number of hours per week will be determined on the basis of the successful candidate’s availability, but it is anticipated the intern would work a minimum of 6 hours per week, 4 of which would be on-site at their kitchen location in Skowhegan.

Responsibilities:
The student intern will have a knowledge of website design, online sales, social media marketing (including Facebook, Twitter, Constant Contact, and any new ones that would be worth adding), and photography.  The Maine Meal is very proud to be part of the local food system and strives to make a real impact and supports our local suppliers.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Help to refresh our company message.
  • Help us design and launch our website.
  • Engage our customers through social media.  Bring our company up-to-date on social media and assist us in managing our social media presence.
  • Engage with our suppliers and help us tell their story (no vehicle provided, but mileage reimbursement rate paid from Maine Meal to Farm/Suppliers) using video, photography, interviews, etc.
  • Update our farmers market display.
  • Help in the kitchen!  We all help out and work in the kitchen.  Four hours per week will be required and responsibilities could include dish washing, food prep, packaging, labeling, cleaning, etc.  All interns will be taught basic knife skills and kitchen safety and sanitation.
  • Attend monthly meetings with our whole team to update each other on progress and re-evaluate direction (by phone most likely).

  • Professional appearance
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work with a team
  • Passion for local food system work a bonus!
  • Experience with storefront website design
  • Google Doc savvy
  • Social media savvy and know how
  • Small business marketing coursework and/or experience
  • Clean driving record
  • Must have own vehicle and computer/smart device for good quality photo/video capability
  • Experience with capturing good quality photos and videos with smart device
