Description of the Internship:
The Franklin County Animal Shelter (FCAS) is a non-profit organization.  Since 1974, their purpose has been to provide temporary care and shelter to stray, homeless and abandoned animals.  FCAS serves the community as an adoption facility where loving families and pets in need of a home come together.  The shelter relies on helpful volunteers and community involvement to maintain a high standard of care.

The hours and schedule for this internship are flexible and will be agreed upon between the selected intern candidate and the organization.  The Franklin County Animal Shelter would be willing to expand the responsibilities of this internship for students seeking to obtain approval of faculty to receive academic credit approval for performing this internship.

Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Animal Shelter Intern will vary from day to day.  Some of the general duties the intern will be expected to perform include:

  • Animal care, including feeding, grooming, assisting with medical treatments, etc.
  • Volunteer Coordination
  • Assisting in the planning and organization of community events and working during such events.
Qualifications:
  • Good communication (verbal and writing) skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work well with staff, volunteers and the general public
  • Good organizational skills
  • Strong work ethic
  • Self-starter
