Description of the Internship:
Astronomy, Natural History and Museum Experiences Project (Summer 2019)

The L.C. Bates Museum at Good Will-Hinckley is an early 20th century museum of natural history and culture that strives to preserve and exhibit its collections and provide educational services to our community.

Responsibilities of this position will include: Working with museum visitors including teachers, students, campers and families to provide observatory, astronomy and natural science programs and guided tours. Working with museum staff and volunteers to plan, organize, and present Earth and Space and natural history programs and summer camps. Preparing hands-on science and observing projects and materials for children. The successful candidate will be paid an hourly stipend for the summer. Work schedule and hours will be designed to meet the needs of the project and audience. Some evening hours required (Mid May to August).

Responsibilities of this position will include:  Working with museum visitors including teachers, students, campers and families to provide observatory, astronomy and natural science programs. Working with museum staff and volunteers to plan, organize, and present observatory and natural history programs. Operating the small observatory and telescope. Preparing hands-on astronomy projects and materials for children.

• Familiar with educational presentation
• Lead children’s and Family Programs
• Be able to engage children in learning activities
• Some teaching or camp experience helpful
• Collaborate with project audience
• Solar observing and imaging with visitors

Qualifications:
• Interest in or study of Astronomy, Environmental Education, Museum Studies
and/or Education
• Valid Maine driver’s license
• Excellent driving record
• Satisfactory background checks and health screening
