Description of the Internship:
Housed in the former G.H. Bass Boarding House, now its Farm and Home Museum, the Wilton Historical Society’s mission is to cultivate and nurture  interest and appreciation for our community’s rich history, to preserve our grand building and all of it’s amazing contents (four floors of displays an artifacts) for future generations as well as taking an active role in the economic development of our community.

Responsibilities:
The Museum Docent & Operations Assistant will have an opportunity to be involved in a wide range of responsibilities in the Historical Society and its Farm and Home Museum.

The primary responsibilities of the Museum Docent & Operations Assistant position will include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

  • Indexing
  • Cataloging
  • Filing
  • Website maintenance
  • Assisting with displays
  • Serving as a Docent/Tour Guide

It is estimated this intern would work 5 to 20 hours per week depending upon their schedule and availability.

Qualifications:
  • An interest in history and desire to learn more about it and to effectively share it with others.
  • The ability to work independently and creatively (after training) in cataloging artifacts and other tasks involving the use of a computer with solid organizational ability and attention to detail.
  • Website management skills/experience
