 Description of the Internship:

The Maine Health Research Institute (MHRI) at the University of Maine at Farmington has been engaged in a collaborative research and consulting relationship with the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, Office of MaineCare Services (OMS) since 1998.

MHRI is currently seeking candidates for internships in Augusta, at the Office of MaineCare Services. Interns will serve as essential members of the team.  Past Interns have earned careers at: The University of Maine at Farmington, Blue Cross & Blue Shield, Molina HealthCare, Change HealthCare, MaineGeneral, Tyler Technologies, Common Census, TRC Solutions, Kennebec Behavioral Health, Deloitte Consulting, and OrderLogix.

Data Analyst Interns are expected to work at least 16 hours a week and will be paid $12.00 per hour. Course credit may also be available. Sophomores and Juniors are preferred.


Data Analyst Intern’s responsibilities will include tasks such as maintaining the programs Microsoft Access database including:

  • Using SQL (structured query language) queries and VBA (visual basic for applications) scripts
  • Running current reports in the database
  • Designing and creating new reports
  • Data Entry

*NOTE:  Students don’t need to be proficient in Microsoft Access as many of the needed skills will be developed on the job.

This position will also be responsible for helping with administrative/clerical tasks such as:

  • Processing mailings
  • Scanning and filing documents electronically
  • Organizing Excel spreadsheets
  • Using Excel to create graphs
