Compensation: Unpaid. There is a possibility of free housing, though it is arranged on an individual basis.
Description of the Internships:
The Rangeley Friends of the Arts (RFA) is the Maine Arts Commission 2018 choice for Rural Arts Organization. We operate a non-profit community arts center which is very active June- August, presenting live theater, concerts, rotating art gallery shows, music and drama camps and indie films as well as new digital movies. We are looking for 3 separate interns.

Administrative Assistant (AA): The AA will assist the Office Administrator with all aspects of the RFA Lakeside Theater office, including ticket sales, promotions, mailings.  promotions, press releases, graphic design, Experience with grant writing is also possible if the candidate is interested.
The AA should have a car and be able to drive to distribute promotional materials.

Production Assistant (PA): The PA will assist all RFA Musical & Drama Directors and Producers. The PA will assist and gain experience in 3 weeks of summer Drama/Music Camps for youth and teens, Community Musical & Drama direction, wardrobe, organization, set design and construction.  The PA will receive training and function as stage manager for summer productions.

Gallery Assistant (GA):  GA will assist all stages of gallery operation: selecting artists for exhibition, curation, installation, opening receptions, marketing and business management, overseeing hours of operation, breaking down a show. Expect to develop self-promotional skills and confidence in the visual arts business.
Requirements: Sales and communications skills a plus.

The RFA Summer Intern will assist and be mentored through all aspects of:

  • Summer productions, including:  direction, production, stage management, theater sound and lighting, set design, painting and construction
  • Art Gallery show set up and openings
  • Youth Drama Camp and Music Camp
  • Concessions and movie projection
  • Management of contracted talent
  • Publicity/Promotions of events
  • Each intern will work 20 hrs/week
We are seeking enthusiastic interns who are passionate about our mission and possess the following attributes:

  • Basic communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Dependability.
  • Basic office skills are a plus for Administrative Assistant role.
  • Time management and good communication are important assets.
  • The intern(s) should be able to climb up and down a ladder, and stoop & lift 40lbs.
  • The intern(s) would be expected to start as soon as UMF classes are concluded and continue through the end of August, or when UMF classes commence.
