 Description of the Internship:
Centrally located in the heat of Maine and at the confluence of I-95 and I-295, the city of Gardiner offers history, convenience, and a wealth of shopping and outdoor activities to visitors seeking arts and entertainment, scenic recreational trails, and a waterfront park and boat launch on the tidal Kennebec River.  Gardiner is an unspoiled, authentic New England community with a historic downtown, and is located within hours of Maine’s famous coast and Mountain regions and less than an hours drive from Portland.

The City is seeking a motivated college student who has an interest in public service and wishes to broaden his/her experience in local government.  The schedule can be flexible and it is anticipated the intern would work up to a maximum of 30 hours per week.

General Responsibilities:
The intern would work directly with the City Manager and would offer the intern a variety of opportunities to enhance their academic learning with real-world experience in the public service sector.  The intern will have the opportunity to broaden his/her experience in local government and help enact real change in Gardiner’s historic, waterfront community.  Some

  • Research, organize and help upgrade the City’s official website
  • Learn about and assist with various city departments while updating their webpages
  • Attending various committee meetings

Students interested in, and who have taken courses in public service, government, geography, city planning and development, environmental sciences, etc.
