Internship Number: 607
Internship Title: Maine-Based Software Startup Summer Internship
Location: Waterville, Maine
Period of Engagement: Summer Application Deadline: May 15th, 2019
Compensation: Paid
Description of the Internship:
Eariously is accessibility software that lets students listen to the things they have to read. Our organization is made up of two full-time co-creators, Nick Rimsa and Brendan Barr. Nick leads our team’s design, marketing, product and sales, while Brendan is our software developer. We’re currently working closely with three colleges (Colby College, NW Missouri State, and UMass-Amherst) to turn students’ reading assignments into listening assignments. Listening has always been our favorite medium to learn new things, and we started making Eariously for ourselves. It wasn’t until we made an Eariously landing page that we discovered an ideal listener. Interestingly, we discovered that many respondents were college professors, librarians, and IT staff. College faculty and staff told us that 70% of students don’t do the reading for any given class. Professors and librarians signed up to use Eariously as a learning tool because getting students to “do the reading” is their biggest student-related frustration.

The Maine-Based Software Startup Summer Internship is for UMF students who are enrolled in summer classes to evangelize the software to their classmates and collect feedback on the software.
