Description of the Internship:
Maine Huts & Trails is a non-profit organization that provides inviting backcountry experiences among Maine’s western mountains, inspiring reverence for the Northern Forest, modeling environmental stewardship and strengthening the local economy.

The system currently is made up of 80+ miles of multi-use recreational trails and waterways, connected together by four off-the-grid, self-sufficient eco-lodges filled with all the comfort amenities of home. We serve locally sourced meals and offer an array of regional craft beer, wine, and soft drinks. The ultimate goal of the system is to span over 200 miles from the Mahoosuc Mountain Range in Bethel all the way to the shores of Moosehead Lake.

The organization strives at creating an outdoor recreation resource of national and global significance, providing perpetual year-round access to visitors of all ages and abilities. We seek to be a leader in the promotion of environmental stewardship and conservation ethics, educating guests and students alike about the importance of protecting the environment and Earth’s natural resources. Maine Huts & Trails also seeks to stimulate the sensitive economic development in the rural areas surrounding the Western Maine Mountains.

The objective of the project is to develop videos to help articulate the mission of MH&T and for destination marketing. The student will work with the Strategic Content Director at MH&T to learn about the character, the uniqueness, the features, and all the other aspects of MH&T and the surrounding area that make the region and service so special. The student will continue working with the Strategic Content Director to define objectives of the project, make a plan, and capture the footage. The student will then take the footage and edit the content into the final product, again working and getting input from the Strategic Content Director throughout.

The student will make periodic visits to the Maine Huts & Trails office and system for meetings and to capture content and will work at the UMF campus using video production software onsite to edit the footage shot at the Maine Huts & Trails System.
