University of Maine at Farmington has a long history of excellence in the preparation of teachers.  Beginning as a normal school in 1864 to train teachers, UMF has since grown to include many other fields while maintaining its commitment to preparing teachers.  Currently, over one third of the student body is enrolled in a program leading to teacher certification. This link – Maine Memory Network – will take you to a project that describes our history as a Normal School.

University of Maine at Farmington is accredited by the State of Maine and is one of only two campuses in Maine that is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). NCATE accreditation ensures that we maintain the highest standards for our programs.

At UMF we have a number of different programs that lead to full certification in the State of Maine.  The links below will take you to pages that describe our Teacher Education programs at UMF!
