Jim Toner: friend, mentor, colleague, outdoorsman
It is with a very heavy heart we share this deeply sad news. Jim Toner, Director of the UMF Fitness & Recreation Center and founder of UMF’s Mainely Outdoors program, passed away July 16 at home, a victim of an unrelenting cancer that was first diagnosed last fall.
Jim was, for those who knew him, a man of remarkable integrity and decency. He was cherished by those who worked closely with him: UMF faculty, students and staff; UMF Athletics and Student Services departments; and the greater Farmington community. Jim is greatly missed.
In keeping with his father’s wishes, Jim’s son Joe Toner announces there will be a Celebration of Jim’s life Friday, July 27th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the North Dining Hall of the Olsen Student Center. All are invited to attend in honor of this good man.
The UMF Fitness & Recreation Center features:
- A fully-equipped weight room with free weights and machines
- A large cardio fitness area with equipment
- Three multi-purpose courts
- 1/8 mile walking/jogging track
- 25-yard swimming pool
The Fitness & Rec Center offers a wide range of group fitness classes for all levels and abilities: step-aerobics, Zumba, spinning, yoga, pilates, water workout, kick boxing and more. Plus professional fitness trainers, swim lessons, children’s programs, American Red Cross programs and more.
