Welcome to the FRC pool

The Fitness and Recreation Center is proud to offer a 25yd recreation pool serving all populations from our academic classes, lap swimmers, to swim lessons. Our pool is always staffed by an American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard. Swim lessons, rentals, lifeguard training, water aerobics and a multitude of other opportunities await you in the pool.

The FRC pool is keep at 85 degrees +/-. Half of the pool is set aside for lap swimming and has three lap lanes and two diving blocks available. The other half of the pool is designated as the “Open Area” and is set aside for free swimming, group fitness, classes, physical therapy etc. The pool is equipped with a handicapped lift and a ramp to ensure safe and ease in entering the water. Limited swimming aids are available, such as swim belts, kick boards, and pull buoys.

Pool Rules:

*Health Department Rules and Regulations

All patrons or swimmers having a communicable disease or displaying signs and symptoms of a communicable disease which can be transmitted through normal swimming pool use shall be excluded. No person having a communicable disease or displaying signs and symptoms of a communicable disease shall work at any type pool in a function in which there is a likelihood that they would transmit the disease to any other person.

Starting blocks shall not be used for any purpose other than for competitive swimming.

Glass, sharp objects, or any other items which might cause injury or accidents shall not be allowed in the pool or pool area.

Spitting, spouting water, blowing the nose, or discharging bodily waste in the pool is strictly prohibited.

All persons using the swimming pool must take a shower before entering the pool enclosure.

Persons having open blisters, cuts, etc… are advised not to use the pool.

 

 

Things you should know about special situations:

THUNDER & LIGHTING
The pool is to be closed at the first sight or sound of thunder or lighting and should be reopened 30 minutes after the last sight or sound. This is for the protection of our patrons.

LOSS of POWER
The pool will be closed any time the facility losses power, the pool will reopen after power has been restored.

SANITATION ISSUES
The pool will be closed and treated after any contamination in alinement with state and federal laws. The length of time is dependent on the contaminate.

EMERGENCIES
The FRC staff is trained in CPR/ AED and First Aid. If there is an emergency in the facility you may be asked to exit the pool area so the lifeguard may assist in patient care as needed. If there is an emergency in the pool areas please notify the lifeguard and exit the water.

 

Exercise Classes

Water exercise classes are available under the direction of the Group Fitness Program. Classes are reflected on both the Group Fitness Schedule and the Pool Activity Schedule. Contact the Group Fitness Director for class information.

Physical Therapy in the Pool

The FRC pool is the perfect place for physical therapy. Franklin Memorial Hospital utilizes the pool on Tuesday and Friday mornings for PT. If you are in need of P.T. you may contact FMH at 778-XXXX. If you are interested in a Physical Therapy memberships, we have a 3 month membership option, for more information and requirements please contact the Front Desk at 778-7495.

Pool Rentals

Our pool is available for group and private rentals. Court fees are additional. Birthday Party packages are also available. A minimum for 2 week notice required for all rentals, 4 week is preferred. No rentals are allowed in the facility after normal operating hours. Please call 778-7437 for more information or to book a rental. ALL rentals are booked on a first come first serve basis.

Children’s Programs

The UMF FRC Center Children’s Programs utilize the pool throughout the year. During the Spring and Fall semesters the After School Program (ASP) uses the pool twice a week from 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm on Mondays and Thursdays. Each child is given a swim test to gage their ability. They utilize the free area of the pool to play games and participate in other activities, supervised by ASP counselors and HFC lifeguards.

During the Spring semester, February Vacation Break Camp use the FRC pool to provide variety to the programming.

The summer months bring new opportunities for children through our Summer Daze Camp. All campers and programs utilize the pool. The pool is typically utilized during inclement weather or to administer a swim test for campers to determine their ability to swim outside in the rivers, lakes, and oceans.
